The Archdiocese of Las Vegas, together with Pope Francis and the entire Catholic Church, recently initiated the Jubilee Year 2025 under the theme “Hope Does Not Disappoint” (Rom 5:5). We are indeed ‘Pilgrims of Hope’, and this Jubilee Year 2025 is meant to reawaken in us the blessed hope for the coming of the Kingdom of God. As we yearn for the treasures of heaven, we know that we are also called to spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, throughout the earth.
Pope Francis wrote in the letter opening this Jubilee Year 2025: “In the heart of each person, hope dwells as the desire and expectation of good things to come, despite our not knowing what the future may bring”.
A People of Hope! That is the Archdiocese of Las Vegas! The spiritual family to which we belong, now in its 30th Anniversary year, continues to sow seeds of hope. One way we are invited to be sowers of faith, love, and hope is through the Catholic Stewardship Appeal.
Dear Parishioners and Friends of the Guardian Angel Cathedral,
As we enter into the Jubilee Year 2025 as Pilgrims of Hope, I pray that you had a blessed Christmas. In this Jubilee, please let me share some news about our Archdiocesan Catholic Stewardship Appeal that will “kick off” in a few days.
The Catholic Stewardship Appeal (CSA) is our annual Archdiocesan Appeal that funds many apostolates throughout the Archdiocese of Las Vegas. CSA kicks off this coming weekend at all Masses in the parishes of the Archdiocese, with Archbishop Thomas speaking to all of us in a brief video message. He will remind us of the many pastoral programs only possible through the CSA. This video can also be accessed on our Archdiocesan and Cathedral websites. Our Cathedral parish CSA goal for 2025 is $97,018.
A second important aspect of CSA is the Rebate Program: everything we raise, over and above our goal, comes back - 100% - to the Guardian Angel Cathedral for its own projects.
Three CSA projects we hope to accomplish this year are:
A new color LED marquee screen to replace our Guardian Angel Cathedral Sign, making it truly “Strip-worthy,” more informative, more prayerful, and more beautiful
Opening our Cathedral Gift Shop, as the faithful request religious articles and literature each week to help them live out their Catholic faith (even in Las Vegas!)
Video equipment enabling Guardian Angel Cathedral to live-stream its 2:30 PM Vigil Mass to the homebound and to record other special Cathedral liturgies and events
There are obviously many smaller improvements that must be made to the Cathedral in 2025. With a successful CSA rebate program, that, too, can be accomplished.
The key to CSA is that all the faithful make a pledge - and no pledge is too small! Please fill out the CSA pledge card found in this mailing. As a registered parishioner or a friend of the Cathedral, we mail these materials to you. You may mail your pledge to the Cathedral Office using the self-addressed envelope provided. Please prayerfully take the time this coming week to make your pledge. Father Mugagga and I have made our pledges because we believe so much in the ministry and mission of the Guardian Angel Cathedral of Las Vegas.
In this Jubilee Year of Hope, I hope we can reach our 2025 CSA goals, Archdiocesan and Cathedral, by Easter Sunday. We can then celebrate a “resurrection” in the many good works and ministries of the Catholic Church in Las Vegas and here at the Guardian Angel Cathedral on the famed Las Vegas Strip. Thank you for your cooperation, generosity, and especially for being an active “CSA Apostle” this year.
Sincerely yours in Christ, Bishop Gregory W. Gordon Auxiliary Bishop, Archdiocese of Las Vegas Rector, Guardian Angel Cathedral
